Description:

Claidheamh O Bhlar Traigh Ghruineard. Sword from the Battle of Gruinart Strand, 1598 This sword belonged to an Islayman named McPhee, from whom it was taken when the clansmen were disarmed. McPhee, however, followed the government party from Gruinart to Laggan Strand, where he regained possession of his sword-by what mean me know not. On his way he called at Bridgend Inn for a dram "on credit", which the innkeeper refused. McPhee afterwards affirmed that had the dram been given, not a single weapon would have left Islay. (The sword hilt is one of the famour Islay Hilts, by McEachern, Kilchoman)
