Description:
A black and white photograph from 17.12.1939 by Albert Victor Hards of some wild goats on the hills at Smaull. Hards arrived on Islay in 1938 to work as an exciseman with Customs and Excise. He was to remain on Islay till 1940, where he enlisted with the army to fight in north Africa and Greece, where he was captured and saw out the rest of the war as a POW. Following his release in 1945 he returned hom to continue his work as an exciseman.
